About Me

Hello! I’m Aimal. I’m nineteen, and an undergraduate studying Applied Psychology at New York University.
I’ve always been an avid reader. Ever since I was a child, I was intrigued by the pages and pages of words that had the power to transform me into other worlds, whether those worlds are magical boarding schools like Hogwarts, or a kingdom of wonders accessible through a giant wardrobe like Narnia. I grew up with unassuming princesses, spies, demigods, giant peaches and the Baudelaire children. Even now, I am constantly amazed by the magic that a bind-up of pages holds. Even now, I can transport myself to another world, to another dimension, to another person’s life, fictional or real.
So, since reading has had such a huge impact on my life, I’m deciding to give something back. Which is why I decided a couple of months ago that I want to be a book reviewer. Although my career remains focused on the field of Psychology, I would love to pursue my passion for reading well into the peaks of my life.
I started reviewing books on Goodreads. Then, I added a Tumblr blog focused on book blogging. Even though I managed to gather a couple hundred followers in a matter of a few months, I felt like my reviews were mostly ignored among the piles and piles of beautiful pictures of books. Which is why I’m making this blog. It will focus solely on my book reviews (with some personal life events here and there, but not many, I promise!)
My book reviews will be in-depth. If I have a lot to say about a book, I will divide my reviews into sections: plot, characters, and writing style. I will try to be as precise as I possibly can. My reviews are honest, but remain what they are – my opinions. It is not my wish to offend a writer or publisher or reader for writing a harsh review for a book they like. I’ve always admired people who have the ability to gush about certain books, and then be absolutely brutal for others.
I don’t have very high expectations. I don’t expect my blog to change the dynamics of a person’s reading, nor do I expect my blog to become a huge success. But I do hope that I inspire some of my readers to pick up the books that I love. I do hope that my opinion will come to be valuable to some of you wonderful, beautiful, unique people. And I do hope that I will be able to inspire you to pick up something you wouldn’t pick up otherwise, to be awed and amazed by the sheer beauty of words. Most of all, I hope to get to know some of you. It would be my honor.
So there you have it. Thank you for your time, and happy reading!
